Dedicated Web Hosting Clarified

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are three principal varieties - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual servers) and dedicated web hosting servers. Shared hosting web servers host many customers and hence the resources per user account are limited, virtual private server plans give you more configuration autonomy, but also influence other VPSs on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the liberty to perform everything you want without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated web hosting server?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more expensive than shared web servers or VPSs. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is very simple. If your company has a high resource-consuming web portal, or just has very explicit web server configuration requirements, the wisest choice is a dedicated server. For someone who is willing to invest in security and stability, the bigger price is of no importance. You are given root privileges and can utilize 100% of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else utilizing these system resources and interfering with your web pages.

Hardware specifications

The majority of website hosting firms, including us at Mo Money', offer different hardware architectures you can pick from in keeping with your requirements. The configurations include different kinds of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and hard disk drive sizes and different bandwidth allowances. You can choose a hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient interface if you wish to utilize the hosting server for web hosting purposes solely and prefer not to use an SSH client for all the changes you will be making. We provide three sorts of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting web servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server via an SSH client only. That, though, could be awkward, even more so if you wish to give full server root access to someone else who has less technical skills than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is a nice idea. The Hepsia hosting CP GUI that we offer does not give you full root access and is mainly suitable for someone who owns a lot of web portals that swallow lots of system resources, but would like to manage the web sites, databases and mailbox accounts using an intuitive Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full server root privileges and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting packages rather than utilizing the web hosting server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated web hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your web server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is good to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Mo Money' the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated web hosting server as well. Backups are also an additional feature - the web hosting company offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to save the very same data on two hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete server root access erases something unintentionally.
